Monitor assets that have no PLC at all

Battery LoRaWAN sensors, switchable relay outputs, and hand-logged readings all now feed the same metric stream and the same dashboards as high-rate PLC telemetry.

Until now, an asset on Pointnode meant an asset with a controller on it publishing telemetry. That ruled out most of what sits in a real yard: older cranes with no PLC, tanks, gates, stores, and equipment nobody is going to retrofit.

There are now three ways to get a reading into the platform, and they all land in the same place — the same metric history, the same dashboards, the same alarm rules, the same reports.

Battery sensors over LoRaWAN

Add a sensor from an asset’s Connectivity tab. Pick the device type, bind its readings to metric names, and it starts reporting. Long battery life, no cabling, and range measured in kilometres, so one gateway can cover a whole site. Configure your network under Settings → Sensor network.

Switchable outputs

Relay devices can be switched from the dashboard through a control widget. The widget always shows the confirmed state reported back by the device rather than the command you sent, so it cannot show “on” for something that never actually switched. Commands are refused while a lockout is open on the asset, checked again at the moment of sending rather than when the page loaded.

Readings logged by hand

Some things are read off a dial once a shift. You can now log those against an asset and they behave like any other metric — charted, trended, alarmed. If that asset later gets a sensor or a controller, the machine source takes over automatically and the chart marks where the handover happened.
